Canine Obedience And Agility
Canine long jump world record
Cleo and I took Miss Puppy to a canine agility show today. We just watched; Miss Puppy is very agile but nowhere near obedient enough to actually compete at anything other than running away, for which she'd probably gold medal, if they could catch her to present the award. Anyway, part of the contest was doggy long jumping; the contestants raced to the end of a ramp and leaped into a long pool of water. The winner, a Labrador Retriever (come on, you knew it would be a Lab, didn't you?) set a new world record for dog leapage by flying 30 feet 10 inches, beating the previous mark by four inches. The audience in the bleachers at the side of the pool had their own splash zone like the one in Shamu Stadium at Sea World.

fee,
It was just a matter of: lab or golden? Lab wins today!
BTW: I have your "weekend choice reader" up!

Rita: your mishugenah (Spell Check wants "miscegenation" but I'm standing firm) Wordpress blog won't let me add the rest of my comment so I'm putting it here. Have a good night.
"Ah. It's working.
Did you come across the story last winter of the woman who sold her son's car that she'd bought him three weeks earlier because he'd broken one of the only two rules she'd established, which were no liquor and keep the doors locked?

And then there's the story of the man who sold his son's video game after he caught the boy smoking pot: http://afp.google.com/article/ALeqM5ibRPPnWgCtHAoHqbfJWfqnJDBVzw
On the other hand, about ten years ago a bunch of high school students here were arrested and suspended from school for drinking on the bus they'd rented for their prom. The parents were livid; they protested the marks on their kids' records, and threw the little hooligans a party the weekend of the suspension.
I hope I can be strong when and if (gawd forbid) the situation ever arises in my home. I'm counting on you not to let me buckle."

I just found out last week that dog shows aren't just making sure your dog looks pretty and has good manners. I think agility would be much more interesting.
